The McLean County State’s Attorney filed formal charges, including four counts of first-degree murder, against two Decatur men for allegedly killing a Bloomington man last month. However, many unanswered questions remain about Egerton Dover’s shooting death.

The factual basis for holding Anthony Grampsas, 18, and Tyjuan Bruce, 20, was presented in private to the judge when authorities obtained search warrants for the suspects.

The formal charges don’t indicate who police believe fired the fatal shots that killed Dover, 20, at his home December 5 at 816 W. Jefferson St.

The charges do allege Grampsas and Bruce caused Dover’s death while committing a home invasion, residential burglary and armed robbery at the Jefferson Street residence.

Police said Dover suffered multiple gunshot wounds. The suspects are each held on $5 million bond, meaning they have to post 10 percent of that, or $500,000, to be released from jail. The judge scheduled a January 25 court appearance for the pair.

Labor Day – Expanding voting rights for all

Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
