Illinois trooper seriously hurt after being struck by vehicle

COLLINSVILLE – An Illinois State Police trooper is in stable condition after he was seriously hurt Wednesday night in what was the 14th trooper vehicle to be struck statewide in 2019.

State police said the trooper was responding to a multi-vehicle accident around 11 p.m. on I-55 near Collinsville. The trooper was hit while outside of his vehicle trying to slow down traffic.

Police said the trooper was responding to the initial accident, which brought down a light pole across the highway, causing several vehicles to hit it.
