BLOOMINGTON – Illinois State University Police have arrested a campus employee for allegedly stealing almost $162,000 from Bone Student Center businesses.

ISU Police Lt. Jeff Klepec said Debbie White, 58, worked for dining services.

The various restaurants at the Bone Student Center placed cash in a safe, it was White’s job to remove the money from the safe and place money bags in an office for pickup by armored truck employees.  Instead, White allegedly took some of the cash for herself since 2016.

White, who is from Benson, is charged with three counts of theft, including a Class X felony, which could land her in prison for six to 30 years if she is convicted.

ISU Police said they arrested White Monday morning, capping a two-week investigation in which a hidden camera allegedly caught her stealing money.

Associate Judge Scott Kording is allowing White to be released on her own recognizance. Prosecutors recommended that White should be held on a $10,000 cash bond.

She is scheduled to appear in court April 12.

Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
