BLOOMINGTON – Bloomington Mayor Tari Renner is excited to work with newly elected city council members and is anticipating a bit of change.
The municipal elections resulted in four new alderman elected. They include Donna Boelen, Julie Emig, Jenn Carrillo and Jeff Crabill.
“Almost half the council is new because we have four coming in out of the nine seats,” Renner told WJBC’s Scott Laughlin. “If you have one new alderman elected that makes a change, have two and that makes a pretty big change. Now we go all the way up to four and that will most likely make a pretty big culture change.”
“Regardless, I think we’ll be poised to make important progress over the next few years in Bloomington as we’ve already made some, but I think we can make even more,” Renner added.
In Ward 2, Boelen out-polled Georgene Chissell 351-235 while the Ward 4 seat went to Emig by a 660-437 margin over Don “Chip” Frank. Carrillo edged long-time alderwoman Karen Schmidt 378-334 in Ward 6. The open Ward 8 slot went to Crabill who defeated Travis Wilson 486-173.
The new aldermen will be sworn in May 1.
