BLOOMINGTON – A Tazewell County teacher out of work for allegedly making racist posts on the internet apparently has connections to Illinois State University and the Twin-Cities.
Pekin High School social studies teacher Kevin Pummill resigned, and won’t be returning to work, according to news partner WMBD-TV.
Tuesday night, Pekin High School Superintendent Danielle Owens issued a statement saying the district found the teacher made a number of troubling and offensive posts on a private web-based message board.
Records from ISU’s registrar’s office show Pummill graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 2017, and is from Bloomington.
There’s no evidence the teacher discriminated against students, according to the superintendent, but the district wants anybody with information about inappropriate activity to contact the school.
Pummill allegedly posted offensive comments on a site run by Identity Evropa, which is considered a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center. The website Identify Evropa publicized Pummill’s alleged activities.
