NORMAL – The Children’s Discovery Museum in Uptown Normal hit a special mark Wednesday by welcoming its two millionth visitor.

Robert Kohaus and his three daughters, Annabelle, Madalyn and Corinne of Bloomington were the lucky guests.

“This is very unexpected, you don’t walk in and expect to be the two millionth person so it’s very exciting,” said Kohaus.

Kohaus said he and his wife Ashley have been bringing their three girls and son Benjamin to the CDM since moving back to the area.

“We come to the museum occasionally, but its something we try to take advantage of with the kids because they always have fun here,” Kohaus said.

For reaching the two million mark the Kohaus family received a full year membership to the CDM and other prizes.

“Reaching this number shows the museum is working,” said CDM executive director Beth Whisman. “We are entertaining and educating families at a very high rate and not only with individuals but also schools and programs that come through. It also shows the investment that the Town of Normal made in the Children’s Discovery Museum was worth it,” said Whisman.

Whisman added the two million is strictly for the Uptown location, which opened in 2004.

The museum will celebrate its 25th anniversary in September.
