NORMAL – Pig-ears sold as dog treats in central Illinois and 33 other states are being recalled due to potentially causing an outbreak in Salmonella.
Pet Supplies Plus a chain pet store, with a store located at 1720 Bradford Ln. in Normal is recalling bulk pig-ears sold in open bins.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced the recall due to a potential link to Salmonella.
According to a news release, 45 people in 13 states have been diagnosed with Salmonella-related illness. However, none of these cases are confirmed to be a result of purchasing pig ears from Pet Supplies Plus.
Consumers are advised to throw away the treats if already purchased.
