NORMAL – An accused child molester has posted a high bond and has been released from the McLean County jail.
Normal police arrested Benjamin Carney, 23, of El Paso on Friday for allegedly molesting a girl younger than 13 between June of 2017 and January of last year.
Prosecutors charged Carney with 12 counts of predatory sexual assault of a child and recommended Carney be held on a $75,035 cash bond.
Associate Judge Scott Kording ordered Carney held on a $45,035 cash bond. Carney came up with the money Monday.
Conditions of his bond include that he has no contact with anyone under the age of 18.
Carney is ordered to appear in court July 19.
