BLOOMINGTON – Central Illinois Congressman Rodney Davis thinks it’s crucial to have everyone counted in the upcoming U.S. Census, especially in Illinois.
While there has been much speculation about a question on the Census regarding citizenship, Davis (R-Taylorville) told WJBC’s Scott Miller every person in the country whether a citizen or not needs to be counted.
Listen to Davis’s full interview with WJBC’s Scott Miller:
“Everyone should be counted, especially in Illinois because if we don’t get everyone counted we could lose two seats in Congress. That lessens Illinois’ influence in the presidential election,” said Davis.
“The Constitution was laid out to have everyone counted so that we could identify how many people may not be a citizen of the United State. That doesn’t mean it’s going to be followed up with a deportation force,” Davis added.
Last week the U.S. Supreme Court blocked the citizenship question from being included.
The Trump administration has said they’re pursuing different avenues to get the question on the 2020 Census.
