BLOOMINGTON – Electric vehicle maker Tesla plans to open a sales and service center in Bloomington.
The company hopes to open the location in the 420 Olympia Drive, inside the Towanda Barnes Business Park. The Bloomington Zoning Board of Appeals will consider a special use permit for Tesla at its 4 p.m. meeting Wednesday. According to our news partner WMBD-TV, city staff are requesting the commission approve the plan.
Tesla would add to the electric vehicle market in the Twin-Cities. Rivian purchased the former Mitsubishi Motors plant in Normal and plans to build its electric vehicles at the site starting sometime in 2020.
Tesla’s store in Bloomington would be its first sales and service center in Illinois outside of Chicago.
