BLOOMINGTON – The City of Bloomington has applied for federal grant funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation to construct the final portion of the Hamilton Road corridor.
The city is asking for $5.3 million to complete the corridor. The passageway is a priority east-west link in south Bloomington. Final construction includes a part of Constitution Trail and pedestrian gates at a new grade crossing in the area. The city said total construction cost is estimated at just under $7.8 million.
The Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development, or BUILD grant program, has provided a combined $7.1 billion to 554 projects since 2009.
The Department of Transportation must make awards by Nov. 12.
