SPRINGFIELD – The new law intended to close the pay gap between the sexes is a bad bet for business, says one leader.
“This is a bad bill that’s going to make it harder for small businesses to find qualified job candidates. Small businesses, in particular, can’t afford to waste time and money interviewing candidates who won’t work for what the employer can afford to pay,” said Mark Grant, Illinois director of the National Federation of Independent Business, in a statement.
“Our members say one of their biggest challenges right now is finding qualified job applicants.”
Plus, says Grant, if you own a small business, you are probably chief cook and bottle washer, too.
Grant adds the law is too easy to violate without even knowing it.
