NORMAL – The Normal Town Council will consider a change to its liquor code to accommodate online shoppers buying alcohol and wishing to pick it up curbside, or have the business deliver it to them.
Places like Walmart, Kroger, Meijer, Schnucks and Target can not currently offer curbside pick-up or delivery service for alcohol purchases. The ordinance considered for Monday night would change that.
Businesses that would offer curbside pickup would still need to check whether customers are 21 or older and not deliver alcohol to someone already intoxicated.
Under the ordinance, Bloomington retailers would be able to make alcohol deliveries to customers in Normal.
Meantime, the council will also consider granting a liquor license for the AMC Classic Theater located at 201 McKnight St. The business would have to pay a $1,500 annual fee.
The staff report to the council said two Bloomington movie theaters are allowed to sell alcohol.
