BLOOMINGTON – Local organizations are asking for the communities help to assist kids who don’t get a good night’s sleep.
The West Bloomington Revitalization Project and YouthBuild McLean County are asking for donations and volunteers for its annual Bed Blitz.
The project is a one-day event where volunteers come together to assemble bed frames for children who are 4-18 years old in low-income families.
The project started four years ago after the WBRP found out how many kids don’t have a proper bed.
“I was uncertain and a doubter because Bloomington-Normal is a great community and I didn’t think we really had students sleeping on the floor,” WBPR Director Robert Bosquez told WJBC’s Scott Miller. “We talked to Recycle Furniture for Families, and they told us they receive 100 requests a month for beds, that pretty much told me this is real, wake up.”
The project provides children with a bed set that includes: a twin bed frame, mattress, pillow, sheets, and a handmade quilt.
Bed Blitz takes place Oct. 12 at 360 Wylie Drive in Normal, but donations and volunteers are needed before that day.
