SPRINGFIELD – Sunday was a day for veterans at the Illinois State Fair.
The theme of the main program was “Women Veterans.” Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton told the crowd the women were and are “breaking barriers, making history, and showing little girls all around our state what is possible,” adding while all veterans are heroes, women are also our “she-roes.”
Brig. Gen. Alicia Tate-Nadeau was the keynote speaker.
“Whenever they asked me to talk about women in the military,” she said, “my first thought was, aren’t we all just veterans?” with applause following.
Tate-Nadeau is now acting director of the Illinois Emergency Management Agency.
