BLOOMINGTON – James W. “Jim” Dee, 90, of Bloomington, passed away at 10:25 a.m., Thursday, August 22, 2019 at Heritage Health in Bloomington.
A Mass of Christian burial will take place at 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 26 at St. Patrick Catholic Church of Merna, Bloomington with Rev. Dustin Schultz officiating. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Normal with military rites accorded by the Bloomington-Normal American Legion Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 a.m., Monday at the church. Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington is assisting the family with arrangements.
Memorials may be directed to St. Patrick Catholic Church of Merna or St. Vincent de Paul Society.
Jim was born April 22, 1929 in Bloomington, the son of James G. and Pearl M. Hines Dee, Sr.
Survivors include his sister, Rosemary King of Normal; two nieces, Mary (Morrie) Sweeney and Ann (Gene) Harvey, both of Bloomington; four nephews, Bob (Vicki) King of Towanda, Dave (Julie) King of Bloomington, John (Domine) King of Normal and Steve (Laurel) King, Scottsdale, AZ; 17 great nieces and great nephews and several great-great nieces and great-great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Allan C. King.
Jim served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He graduated from Trinity High School, Bloomington in 1947 and attended Purdue University. He farmed east of Bloomington his entire life, retiring in 2004 at the age of 75.
Jim was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 574, Bloomington and the McLean County Farm Bureau. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church of Merna having served on the finance committee.
