BLOOMINGTON – The 12th annual Radio Bloomington-St. Jude Radiothon surpassed its goal to help children with cancer.
The event raised $106,320, better than the $103,000 raised during last year’s radiothon.
Money raised during the radiothon helps pay for cancer treatment and research, but it also provides travel, housing, and food for families with patients at St. Jude Children’s Research Hosptial, based in Memphis.
Since St. Jude opened its doors in 1962, the survival rate for childhood cancer has risen from 20 percent to almost 90 percent today.
