CHICAGO – President Donald Trump has commuted the 14-year prison sentence of former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich.
Trump confirmed the news to reporters Tuesday afternoon before departing for California, according to the Associated Press. Trump told reporters that Blagojevich’s sentence was “ridiculous.”
The former governor was convicted on charges which included seeking to sell an appointment to Barack Obama’s vacated U.S. Senate seat and trying to shake down a children’s hospital.
Blagojevich was convicted of political corruption just months after he appeared on Trump’s reality TV show, “Celebrity Apprentice.”
