MORTON – Illinois State Police have confirmed that one person is dead after a head on crash Wednesday on Interstate 74.

ISP said around 8 a.m. a Chevrolet Van was travelling on I-74 westbound near Morton when it lost control due to icy road conditions.  The van drove into incoming traffic and hit a semi truck head on, according to police.

Authorities said the driver of the van was pronounced dead at the scene by Tazewell County Coroner Charles Hanely.  The driver’s name is not being released until family is notified.

Police said two passengers inside the van were transported to local hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation by ISP and the coroner’s office.

Due to the crash, traffic was rerouted onto exit 102 into Morton.  The left lane of I-74 in that area has reopened.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
