Self-defense turns deadly in Delevan

DELEVAN– An act of self-defense Thursday night turned fatal in Tazewell County.

The Tazewell County Sheriff’s office says officers were called to a disturbance in rural Delevan just after 8 p.m..

A homeowner on Boynton Road reported hearing yelling outside and as he left his home to investigate he was approached by a male subject.

Officers say the subject threatened the homeowner with bodily harm and then charged the man and started biting him on the face and head.

The homeowner shot the man in self-defense.

The male subject was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office along with Illinois State Police, the Tazewell County States Attorney’s Office and the Tazewell County Coroner’s Office are investigating the incident.
