SPRINGFIELD– A backup in processing applications for a FOID card is frustrating gun owners and the state lawmakers who represent them.
“We have just been inundated with calls,” said State Rep. Mike Marron (R-Fithian). “I would say almost ninety percent of their time every day is taken up dealing with FOID card renewal issues.”
One problem is that previous administrations have raided the FOID fund, and a “lockbox” amendment for that is on a list of bills the group of Republican representatives brought to a Capitol news conference.
Another proposal doubles the amount of time in which one can try to get a FOID card renewal, again addressing a slowdown at the state police.
