BLOOMINGTON – The national gas price average is cheaper on the week – as Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Iowa, and Wisconsin all landed on the top 10 list for largest weekly declines in the country.
At $2.38, the national gas price average has not been this cheap since last February, according to the AAA Weekly Fuel Gauge.
“Generally, growing demand amid declining stocks causes increases at the pump, but crude oil prices have dipped to four-year lows, signaling spring could be cheaper at the pump,” said Molly Hart, spokesperson for AAA.
Locally, prices in Bloomington-Normal Monday are $2.23, down 19 cents from a week ago, and compared to last year when prices were $2.51. Gas in Champaign is $2.33, in Springfield $2.26, and $2.46 in Peoria.
On the week, gas prices are cheaper across the entire region by as much as 12 cents. These six states land on the top 10 list for largest weekly declines in the country: Indiana (-12 cents), Michigan (-11 cents), Illinois (-11 cents), Iowa (-7 cents), Wisconsin (-6 cents) and Missouri (-6 cents).
