BLOOMINGTON – A local company has advanced to the next round of the Illinois Manufacturers’ Association “Makers Madness” competition.

BEER NUTS, a snack company based in Bloomington since 1953, has advanced to the top 16 for the “Coolest Thing Made in Illinois.”  The event is styled off the popular “March Madness” collegiate basketball tournament and features over 260 unique products manufactured in the state.  BEER NUTS now faces the Sloan Flushometer in the bracket.

Among the top 16 things are spacecraft control switches and a Ford Mustang headlight.  The Illinois Manufacturers’ Association said the first round of bracket-style voting had nearly 100,000 votes.

You can vote at MakersMadnessIL.com. The winners will be announced April 1.

African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life
