Of the three new cases of coronavirus announced in McLean County today Illinois Wesleyan University says there’s a connection to the school.

The McLean County Health Department, while maintaining confidentiality, assured the University that anyone who had contact with the patient had been notified.

In a statement the school said, “the individual is not an Illinois Wesleyan student, faculty or staff member, and they have not visited our campus recently. This is the first known case of COVID-19 involving an individual with contacts in our campus community.”

With the majority of the campus free of students and employees working from home, the University says the risk of transmission of COVID-19 on campus is very low.

Members of the university community are reminded to continue to practice social distancing, monitor their health and follow CDC guidelines.

If students or employees do test positive they are asked to let the university know to allow precautions to be taken to maintain the health of the campus community.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
