SPRINGFIELD – The fact that this is an important week on many religious calendars is not lost on the state’s top doctor, but Illinois Department of Public Health director Dr. Ngozi Ezike says to stay home anyway — and stay away from others.

“The testing of our faith produces perseverance; let perseverance finish its work. We know that the strategies that we’ve employed are working. Let’s not stop now. Let’s get all in, Illinois, We are going to get to the other side of this pandemic and celebrate whatever faith we celebrate together soon.”

Gov. Pritzker said he is ready to stop relying on the federal government. Tests could soon be “made in Illinois.”

“Our institutions are developing and distributing their own viral transport medium (VTM) and the necessary reagent locally,” he said. “Hospitals and labs in Illinois that are running low on VTM can access these resources through their local emergency management agency’s resource request system.”

By the numbers, Wednesday’s report was the worst day yet for Illinois, more than 15-hundred new cases and 82 more deaths. The totals are 15,078 cases and 462 deaths.

Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
