SPRINGFIELD– One person is not impressed with how Gov. Pritzker is handling the pandemic – the man he beat in 2018.

In a series of text messages to WJBC’s Dave Dahl before Monday’s coronavirus briefing, former Gov. Bruce Rauner said Pritzker’s plans are set up to justify the graduated income tax, get a federal bailout, and ruin the economy for President Trump at election time.

He also disagrees with the decision to close schools. Texts Rauner, who left office sixteen months ago, “We’ve put this problem almost entirely on the backs of our children, who are at virtually no risk from this disease, trillions in debt they have to pay back, lost jobs and internships, and loss of virtually an entire year of their education when you factor in “summer loss” and limited Internet and enrichment opportunities. Government policy is worse than the disease.”

There was also a meme from the former governor of a man living in a box and giving a thumbs-up, with the words “Lost my business, lost my 401(k), lost my house and car, but I didn’t get COVID-19!”

Labor Day – Expanding voting rights for all

If there had been a parade, this year’s Labor Day theme was to be “150 years of struggle: your right to vote.” …

Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
