BLOOMINGTON – A jury deliberated quickly on Thursday before finding a Bloomington woman guilty of first degree murder for stabbing a man in the heart almost two years ago.
Leila Jackson, 23, faces 20 to 60-years in prison when she’s scheduled to be sentenced July 17, which is two years to the day that Quantez Brown was stabbed to death, according to our news partner HOI ABC.
Jackson claimed she stabbed Brown, 24, because she feared for her life when he showed up at her residence at 410 N. Roosevelt Ave. However, Jackson decided not to give jurors the option of finding her guilty of a less serious murder charge.
Authorities said Jackson and Brown knew each other, but were not dating, before the killing.
The jury of six women and six men started deliberating about 11:10 a.m., they ate lunch, and announced they reached a verdict about 12:15 p.m.
