BLOOMINGTON – A lightning strike at the McLean County Detention Facility has affected the inmate visitation system throughout the facility as well as the inmate phone system in certain housing areas of the jail.

No visitation is available for the entire facility and inmates housed in the annex also do not have phone service.

According to our news partner, Heart of Illinois ABC, essential components were damaged after a lightning strike during the storms on Wednesday, July 15.

The sheriff’s office said the service provider has been on site over the last two days troubleshooting the outage.

They say every effort is being made to get the problem resolved as soon as possible.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
