SPRINGFIELD – Even though he backed U.S. Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.), U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) is happy the Democrats’ vice presidential nominee will be U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.). “I called her and said, ‘I’m proud of you,’” Durbin said about Duckworth. “‘At the end of the day, more Americans know your story, and that’s a great thing for our country, and a great thing for you.”
Durbin was at the main post office in Springfield to support more investment in a “service,” he emphasized, with difficult pension obligations and a staff so overwhelmed Durbin’s own mail does not arrive until 7 p.m.
What’s more, Durbin said almost half of Illinois voters this fall are expected to vote by mail, despite President Trump’s proclamations that it’s a fraudulent vote factory for Democrats.
“It isn’t as if (vote-by-mail) was dreamed up by some leftist Antifa organization as a way to undermine democracy,” said Durbin. “It’s been used by states, of both Democratic and Republican persuasion, without incidences of fraud.”
The Postal Service is currently a target of President Trump’s criticism.
