BLOOMINGTON – A Bloomington man is jailed without bond after authorities say he held a lit butane torch to a woman’s face and threatened her with a knife.
Bloomington Police arrested Alan Marshall, 44, for domestic abuse that reportedly went on for several hours September 4 at their home on Eleanor Drive, on the city’s southwest side.
Marshall also used a dog chain and a mattress to block the front door so she couldn’t leave the house, according to authorities.
Police said an ambulance transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment of cuts and bruises. After he surrendered, police said they took Marshall to the hospital, where he was treated and released.
Inside the home, investigators said they found the butane torch and a knife, backing up the woman’s story.
Prosecutors charged Marshall with aggravated domestic battery, domestic battery as a subsequent offense, and unlawful restraint.
Under “Diane’s Law” to protect domestic violence survivors, the judge ordered Marshall held without bond while court officials conduct a risk assessment.
A bond review hearing for Marshall is scheduled for Monday in McLean County Court.
