BLOOMINGTON – With more than 27 million votes cast by mail due to the COVID-19 pandemic, one state lawmaker says it could take weeks and months before officials’ results are confirmed.
State Rep. Dan Brady, R-Bloomington, who is also up for reelection, said with no possible clear winner on Nov. 3, it could add to the problems America is already facing.
“I think there’s great potential there not to see one for the next day, and I think that could add to more of the pressures and problems of this country. I hope that doesn’t happen, but the potential is there with the aspect of vote-in mail, the aspect of it going to be a close election; it’s entirely possible we may not know that evening. Whatever the time frame may be, I hope it’s a short period of time so we can find out what the electorate said, what the people decided, and we come together and start moving this country forward again.”
Brady said while some may not like either Presidential candidate, registered voters should still cast a ballot.
“I certainly encourage them to vote because there are a lot of people on that ballot and a lot of different races at different levels of government. In so throwing away your vote in that respect, I don’t. That’s up to each individual, what they decided and how they make their decision, and that’s why hopefully everything from voters guides to education that people’s paying attention to how they make their decision; however, they are going to do that.”
Brady added that mail-in voting is safe because it’s in the hands of local governments.
