SPRINGFIELD – In a vote long on ceremony and short on suspense, Illinois’ twenty electors went for Joe Biden for president and Kamala Harris for vice president.
The certified vote now goes to Washington, D.C., as the Electoral College affirms the voters’ choices of November 3.
Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot was elected chair, following Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White as presiding officer. Lightfoot and Illinois Senate President Don Harmon (D-Oak Park) served as at-large electors, with the other eighteen each representing one congressional district.
Illinois is not a state whose results President Trump’s campaign has been actively contesting.
