BLOOMINGTON – Sergeant Tim Power, who led the investigation into a 2018 shooting that left three dead and a child unable to walk, testified in a McLean County courtroom on Friday.
Sydney Mays, 24, faces first degree murder and attempted murder charges, accused of murdering Nathaniel Pena, Corey Jackson, Juan Carlos Perez-Macedo and wounding Pena’s four-year-old son at Bloomington apartment in June 2018.
During cross examination of Power, defense attorney Mike Clancy pointed out none of the doors to the building or to the unit were locked, appearing to suggest that anyone could have been the shooter.
“You weren’t in apartment 9 during the shooting?” asked Clancy.
“That is correct,” responded Power.
“You don’t know who was in the apartment of apartment 9 other than CJ…and Nate right?”
“I wasn’t there,” said Power.
A few hours into testimony, Clancy had to take a break, due to a persistent nosebleed. After medical personnel arrived, he asked to be taken to the hospital.
The judge says testimony will resume on Monday.
