NORMAL – A judge has ordered a man from Normal to spend the rest of his life in prison for sexually assaulting a child.

McLean County Judge Casey Costigan sentenced Austin Doyle, 30, pleaded guilty in December to 50-years on each of the six counts of predatory criminal sexual assault, for a total of 300 years in prison.

Prior to Friday’s sentencing hearing, the judge reviewed more than 120 videos and photos of the sex crimes that Doyle reportedly took using his cell phone.

Prosecutors said the assaults happened between 2017 and January of last year, all involving the same victim. Doyle pleaded guilty to the charges in December.

Doyle’s attorney asked for the minimum 36-year prison sentence, while prosecutors recommended the maximum 360 years.

Doyle can appeal the sentence to a higher court.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
