BLOOMINGTON – The McLean County Museum of History closed its doors on March 14, 2020 due to COVID-19. But some good news this week as the museum will reopen May 1.
In preparation for reopening, the museum will open with new operating hours, require masks and adhere to social distancing guidelines. Each exhibit will be limited to a maximum of 10 guests, and no more than 20 guests will be allowed to occupy the building at one time, according to a news release.
“We took the opportunity during the COVID shutdown to complete a historic lighting project in the rotunda and it is just gorgeous, people are going to be thrilled,” MCMH Director of Development Norris Porter told WJBC’s Marc Strauss. “Then new public restrooms, which were actually open during the farmers market last summer, it is quite remarkable from what it was to what it is now.”
Mondays and Wednesdays are reserved for patrons and groups who wish to schedule visits in advance. People can do that by calling 309-827-0428 or email [email protected].
All visitors to the Library and Archives are strongly encouraged to make appointments. That can be done by emailing [email protected]. The Discovery Room (on third floor) will remain closed until further notice.
The museum says it will still offer digital experiences for all audiences.
