SPRINGFIELD – The cool, wet weather could have been a relief to some farmers concerned about dryness as the planting season continues.
Nevertheless, USDA Illinois statistician Mark Schleusener says the soybeans and corn are 57 and 74 percent planted, respectively. That’s above average, particularly for the soybeans.
The statewide average temperature was 55.4 degrees, 3.7 cooler than normal. Precipitation averaged almost 1.6 inches, where an even inch would be normal.
