Rep. LaHood: No need for another investigation into deadly riot at U.S. Capitol

PEORIA – U.S. Rep. Darin LaHood (R-Dunlap) is explaining why he voted against creating an independent commission to investigate the deadly January 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol.

LaHood said there already are multiple investigations.

“The Department of Justice has already arrested over 400 people and indicted people related to the January 6 insurrection,” said LaHood.

“I’m satisfied that those will be good into getting to the bottom of what happened, he said.

“If for some reason those five or six different groups can’t get the answers we need. I’m open minded at a later time doing a commission,” LaHood also said.

LaHood addressed reporters’ questions while participating in a ribbon cutting ceremony for the Illinois National Guard’s new recruiting office in East Peoria.

The House on Wednesday voted 252-175 in favor of establishing a commission. The Senate has yet to vote on the measure.

Area Congressmen Rodney Davis and Adam Kinzinger were among 35 Republicans breaking party ranks and voting for the commission.
