Twin-Cities state representative mulling bid for statewide office

BLOOMINGTON – A long-time state lawmaker from the Twin-Cities is considering a run for statewide office.

State Rep. Dan Brady (R-Bloomington) told Heart of Illinois-ABC on Tuesday he’s exploring a possible run for Illinois Secretary of State.

Current Secretary of State Jesse White, a Democrat, has held the office since 1998, but he said he’s not seeking a seventh term next year.

Brady said he has no timetable for making a decision, but plans to receive input from family, friends, and constituents about his options.

Brady has served in the legislature since 2001, and is the second highest ranking Republican in the House where he is Deputy House Republican Leader. Brady is a funeral director in Bloomington-Normal, and a former McLean County Coroner.

The last two times Brady has run for re-election, he fought off primary challenges from conservative David Paul Blumenshine. In last year’s general election, Brady defeated Democrat Chemberly Cummings, who’s a Normal Town Council member.
