ISU’s first woman president to receive $375K annual salary, trustees pay bonus to outgoing leader

NORMAL – Illinois State University’s governing board has signed off on a four-year contract with the school’s next president, paying her an annual salary of $375,000.

Retiring President Larry Dietz made the same salary, but is also getting a $40,000 bonus as he leaves office at the end of the month.

The Board of Trustees on Saturday approved a four-year deal with Terri Goss Kinzy, who’s becomes ISU’s 20th president and the first woman to lead the school on July 1.

Trustees also voted to pay Dietz a $40,000 bonus on top of his salary after a performance review showed he exceeded expectations in his last year on the job. He could have received up to $50,000. Trustees gave him a $48,000 bonus last year.

Kinzy is currently vice president for Research and Innovation at Western Michigan University.

Kinzy’s contract with ISU enables her to be a tenured professor in the School of Biological Sciences, but she won’t get additional pay for that position.

Kinzy also gets up to $20,000 in moving expenses, can live in ISU’s official presidential residence, she will be provided with a car, and the ISU Foundation will pay Kinzy’s membership at the Bloomington Country Club.

Annual bonuses like those considered for Dietz are not part of Kinzy’s contract.
