Four killed in Logan County crash on I-55

LOGAN COUNTY – Four people were killed Wednesday evening in a car crash on Interstate 55.

Authorities report all four of the individuals are from Washington, Ill, including three juveniles.

Illinois State Police report the crash happened around 10: 11 p.m. at milepost 122 when a 2016 Chrysler Pacifica was traveling northbound. Police report the driver of the Pacifica lost control of the vehicle in heavy rain and skidded across the median and into on-coming southbound traffic.

Authorities report a 2017 Freightliner Truck-Tractor Semi-Trailer traveling southbound at the same location struck the Pacifica in the southbound lane.

Police report the Pacifican came to a rest in the media while the tractor-trailer crossed the median and ended in the northbound lane before overturning on the frontage road E. of Interstate 55.

The four occupants of the Pacifica who died, a 47-year-old male, a 17-year-old male, a 17-year-old female, and a 16-year-old female, all from Washington, were pronounced dead at the scene.

According to ISP, a 13-year-old female who was also in the Pacifica was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the semi-tractor trailer, Core Jackson, 41, from Decatur, Ga., was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The identity of those who died is not being released pending family notification.
