BLOOMINGTON – A McLean County Police K-9 responsible for the seizure of over three million dollars worth of drugs and assets and the discovery of two abducted children has passed away.

K-9 Keej first joined the force in McLean County with Lt. Jason Tuttle in 2008, where he later retired in May of 2018 with his second-handler Lt. Albee.

“Throughout his 10-years of service, he was responsible for the seizure of over three million dollars worth of drugs and assets, including approximately 250 pounds of cannabis, 108 kilos of cocaine, crack, MDMA, Heroin, and Methamphetamine,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a social media post. “This also includes more than $800,000 in currency, vehicles, and illegal guns.”

In July of 2016, Keej played an instrumental role in the discovery of two abducted children.

“Keej was a phenomenal police dog, loyal partner, and an even better friend. I miss him terribly,” said Lt. Albee, Keej’s second-handler.

Keej passed away last Friday due to complications with his spine.

Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
