BLOOMINGTON – A Central Illinois lawmaker tabbed to help investigate the deadly capitol insurrection said he’s disappointed in House Speaker Nancy Pelosi after the Speaker rejected two of the five Republicans House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy selected for the panel.
On Tuesday, Speaker Pelosi announced she was vetoing the appointments of Reps. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and Jim Banks (R-Indiana), due to both being allies of former President Donald Trump.
In return, Minority Leader McCarty announced he would pull the rest of his members, including Rep. Rodney Davis (R-Taylorville), and create his panel to investigate the insurrection.
“It’s very disappointing because I think all of us were looking forward to our first hearing next week to be able to get answers to some of the questions raised by Leader McCarthy, by Ranking Member Banks, and by Jim Jordan,” Davis said in a news conference in Washington, D.C. “But we’re not going to get those answers even in a partisan manner on this committee because she (Speaker Pelosi) chose to take the unprecedented step to try and veto our own members.”
The Taylorville Republican said even though Speaker Pelosi attempted to veto the Republican members of the committee, he still has questions.
“There are many issues that we saw Capitol Police, IG reports and others that laid out reasons why our officers didn’t have the equipment, they didn’t have the training, and they didn’t have the preparation and the backup to adequately address what happened on January 6.”
Speaker Pelosi said she approved the appointments of Rep. Rodney Davis.
