Former Illinois Gov. Blagojevich files lawsuit over not being allowed to run for elected office

CHICAGO – A lawsuit was filed this week by former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich.

The former Governor is suing the state over not being allowed to run for elected office in Illinois.

During Blagojevich’s impeachment, the Senate voted to disqualify him from holding any local or state office again.

However, Blagojevich says that’s unconstitutional.

During his stay in prison, he discovered how infamous he was.

“And then accidentally, as I’m leaking through the pages, I get to do a double-take, I see a photo of me in there. And it was a relatively big photo, I’m in the almanac for this, and it sucks,” Blagojevich said. “I don’t want to be in the almanac for this. And I read through and found that I was mentioned in there four different times. And the only one that wasn’t negative was the one where they say I’m a ‘noble person.’ The other three were very negative and very disparity. So part of what I’m doing is to clean all of that up.”

After 14-months in prison, Blagojevich was released early after then-President Donald Trump commuted his sentence.
