BLOOMINGTON – A Virginia man remains behind bars in McLean County on charges out of Virginia, alleging he played a role in a shooting.
On Tuesday, authorities responded to the 800 block of W. Washington St. for a fireworks complaint.
While investigating the complaint, Police learned that Travarish Carpenter, 29, of Portsmouth, VA., provided a false name.
According to a news release, officers learned that Carpenter was wanted for aggravated malicious wounding, attempted malicious wounding, reckless handling of a firearm, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in Virginia.
Police say the shooting occurred in June of 2021, where a man was taken to the hospital for treatment of serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Additionally, BPD arrested Carpenter’s relative, Catherine Lewis, 64, of Bloomington, for aiding Carpenter in hiding his identity by allegedly providing false information to investigators.
Carpenter is being held on a $30,000 bond of obstructing justice, and Lewis is held on a $10,000 bond of aiding a fugitive and obstructing justice.
Extradition information for Carpenter to travel to Virginia is pending.
