Davis on being pulled off the January 6 Select Committee

SPRINGFIELD – U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis (R-Taylorville) supports the decision of House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) to remove all his nominees, including Davis, from the select committee investigating the Capitol security break of Jan. 6.

“In the end I’m disappointed, because I wanted a chance to talk about the security failures in and around the Capitol complex that put our brave men and women in danger on Jan. 6,” Davis said. “I got briefed on Jan. 5 by Capitol police bc of my position as ranking member of (the) House Administration (Committee), and there was nothing in that briefing that made me think we would witness what we saw on the Sixth.”

Davis said it had to be “all or nothing” about the Republican nominees, adding the minority party has always had the ability to seat its own members — and that Pelosi’s action was beyond even anything former Illinois House Speaker.

Labor Day – Expanding voting rights for all

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
