CLINTON – One person is dead and two others injured after a car crash in DeWitt County.

Illinois State Police say it happened Wednesday at 12:48 p.m. on U.S. 51 Business Route in Clinton approaching U.S. Route 51. Police say a car travelling westbound ran a stop sign and hit a tractor semi-trailer.

The passenger of the vehicle, an 87-year-old man from Pontiac, was pronounced dead. His name has not been released. The driver of the vehicle, Vernon L. Garmon, 88, of Pontiac, was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.

Authorities say Garmon was cited for disobeying a stop sign.

The driver of the tractor semi-trailer was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries, according to ISP.
