BLOOMINGTON – Flu shots are now being offered at Hy-Vee Pharmacy locations around the nation, including the twin cities.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention(CDC), people six months and older are recommended to get a flu vaccine each year to prevent the flu virus from spreading.

However, children 3-years and older are recommended to get the flu vaccine in Illinois.

“Hy-Vee will also be offering workplace vaccination clinics using its fleet of Hy-Vee Healthy You Mobiles and Hy-Vee Health Trailers,” the company said in a news release.

Each patient who receives a flu vaccine at Hy-Vee Pharmacy can earn a 20-cent Hy-Vee Fuel Saver reward, which can be redeemed at any Hy-Vee Gas location.

“Hy-Vee pharmacists conduct a screening process prior to vaccination to ensure each individual is receiving the most beneficial flu vaccine for their health,” the company added in a press release. “Both regular and high-dose flu vaccines are available at Hy-Vee Pharmacy locations.”

Most insurance plans cover the flu vaccine at no charge.

No appointment is needed to receive a flu vaccine; however, Hy-Vee requires vaccine patients to wear a mask during their vaccination.

Labor Day – Expanding voting rights for all

Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
