UPDATE: In a news release, Normal Police Chief Rick Bleichner said three people wounded in the mass shooting suffered serious injuries and were taken to Carle BroMenn Medical Center in Normal.
Illinois State Police are taking over the investigation, following protocol for officer-involved shootings. The chief said officers who fired their weapons will be on administrative leave pending the outcome of the State Police investigation.
The chief said officers fired at the suspect “based on their fear of imminent harm to themselves and others.”
NORMAL – Normal Police Chief Rick Bleichner told Heart of Illinois ABC that three people were shot to death, including the suspect, and three others were wounded Monday at Landings Estates, a mobile home park in north Normal.
The chief said the suspect was fatally shot by police. He said officers were called to Lambert Drive at Landings Estates about 3:45 p.m.
The man allegedly killed two people and wounded three others. Those three victims were taken to area hospitals. Their conditions were not available.
Illinois State Police are now in charge of the investigation, aided by the McLean County State’s Attorney’s office and the coroner.
