NORMAL – The fall 2021 enrollment at Illinois State University is 20,233, down two percent from last year, but the freshman class saw a modest increase.

ISU welcomed 3,374 freshmen to its student body, up one percent from last year, according to a news release Wednesday.

“This most recent recruitment cycle presented several unique challenges, and only through the collective effort of our entire campus community were we able to achieve these enrollment outcomes,” said Jana Albrecht, associate vice president for Enrollment Management.

“Students are eager to be back on campus,” said ISU President Terri Goss Kinzy. “We believe our strong Fall 2021 enrollment numbers reflect the support we have received from students and their families as we have moved forward with our approach to the fall term.”

The university’s student body is becoming more diverse as well, with 35 percent of this year’s freshman class coming from traditionally underrepresented groups. 28 percent of the total student population comes from traditionally underrepresented groups.

Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
