SPRINGFIELD -There were 6.0 days suitable for field work during the week ending October 3, 2021. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 9 percent very short, 18 percent short, 71 percent adequate, and 2 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 8 percent very short, 29 percent short, 62 percent adequate, and 1 percent surplus.
Corn mature reached 95 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 82 percent. Corn harvested for grain reached 41 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 32 percent. Corn condition was rated 2 percent very poor, 4 percent poor, 24 percent fair, 50 percent good, and 20 percent excellent.
Soybeans turning color reached 94 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 93 percent. Soybeans dropping leaves reached 83 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 77 percent. Soybeans harvested reached 32 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 25 percent. Soybeans condition was rated 2 percent very poor, 3 percent poor, 23 percent fair, 50 percent good, and 22 percent excellent.
Winter wheat planted reached 12 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 15 percent. Winter wheat emerged reached 1 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 2 percent.
